You can find what place value is here, we will learn how to read numbers using place value.
As you can see above, each group has a name: the ones place, the thousands place, the millions place, and the billions place. For example, the reason we call the thousands place the 'thousands place' is that each digit in that group represents a multiple of a thousand: one thousand, ten thousand, one hundred thousand... as you can see, they are all thousands! It's the same with millions: one million, ten million, one hundred million... similarly, one billion, ten billion, one hundred billion, they are all billions! I hope you understand why we group them in sets of three; everything in each group is of the same kind! They are all thousands, millions, billions... You need to memorize this! Ones (which you learned how to read in elementary school), then thousands, then millions, then billions exct."
Step :
Group the numbers in sets of three from right to left , and place a comma between each group.
Examples:
I start from the right and place a comma after every three digits; pay attention to the positions of the commas.
Examples:
How many thousands do you see? You will say that many thousands, and after the thousands, you know how to read the next three digits.
One Thousand Four Hundred Fifty-Eight
The place values of the numbers are as follows: 1 represents one thousand, 4 represents four hundred, 5 represents fifty, and 8 represents eight ones.
1000 + 400 + 50 + 8 = 1458
How many thousands do you see? 16 Thousand!
Sixteen Thousand Seven Hundred Four
16 Thousand = 10 + 6 Thousand = 10 000 + 6 000 ( 1 repserents 10 000, 6 represents 6 000 )
7 Hundred = 700 ( 7 represents 700 )
4 = 4 ( 4 represents 4 ones )
How many thousands do you see? 713 Thousand! How many ones ? ( you already know how to read ones )
Seven Hundred Thirteen Thousand Eighteen.
713 Thousand = 700 Thousand + 10 Thousand + 3 Thousand = 700 000 + 10 000 + 3 000
013 = 10 + 3 = Ten + Three
We have millions here, How many millions ? How many Thousands ? How many ones ?
Six million four hundred fifty thousand two hundred fourteen.
6 million = 6 000 000 000
450 Thousand = 450 000 = 400 000 + 50 000
214 = 200 + 10 + 4
We have millions here, How many millions ? How many Thousands ? How many ones ?
Seventy-six million four hundred seventy-eight thousand one hundred thirty-five.
76 Million = 70 000 000 + 6 000 000
478 Thousand = 400 000 + 70 000 + 8 000
135 = 100 + 30 + 5
Two Hundred Seventy-Six Million three hundred fifty-eight thousand nine hundred twenty-five.
276 Million = 200 000 000 + 70 000 000 + 6 000 000
358 Thousand = 300 000 + 50 000 + 8 000
925 = 900 + 20 + 5
One Billion Three Hundred Forty-Six Million Three Hundred Twenty-Eight Thousand Four Hundred Twenty-Three.
1 Billion = 1 000 000 000
346 Million = 300 000 000 + 40 000 000 + 6 000 000
328 Thousand = 300 000 + 20 000 + 8 000
423 = 400 + 20 + 3
Are you having a problem with how many zeros to put?
Reading or writing numbers can sometimes be challenging; how are billions, millions, and thousands written?
Write your number and add the zeros at the end
Thousands = 3 Zeros
Millions = 6 Zeros
Billions = 9 Zeros
Five Thousand
Write 5 then add three zeros for thousand part . = 5 000
Thirty four Thousand
Write 34 and add three zeros for Thousand part = 34 000
One Hundred thirty four Thousand
Write One Hundred thirty four and add 000 = 134 000
Six Million
Write 6 , then add six zeros for the million part to the end = 6 000 000
Ninety Million
Write ninty and add six zeros for million part = 90 000 000
Two hundred eighty-six million
Write Two hundred eighty-six and put 6 zeros for million part = 286 000 000
Five Billion
Write 5 and put nine zeros to the end for billion = 5 000 000 000
Fourty three Billion
Write fourty three and add nine zeros to the end for billion = 34 000 000 000
